True Grit

Am I the only one who thought this movie by the Coen Brothers was way overrated? It was okay, but certainly nothing special. In the packed theater I saw it in, a couple of chuckles during the movie were the only sounds that broke the bored, deathly silence.

Dialogue

I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to create the Dialogue category of flaw, but I had to do it now to at least point out this one issue in Grit. For the most part, the dialogue sounded like everything a writer should not do: Do not spell out every little thing, do not be “on the nose,” and do not repeat something unless it’s very important.
