The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
The most interesting parts were not shown.
- Premise, Structure/Plot
The movie assumed too much and shied away from the real story. That Jesse James (Brad Pitt) was a type of celebrity was not clear, or at least the degree of his fame was not clear, as the expostion to inform us of this was all dialogue from the Casey Afflect character and a brief scene showing a few Jesse books.
That he was ruthless was only mentioned in dialogue; the only terrible thing shown was him roughing up a kid. And the denouement of Robert Ford not getting the applause he expected was an amazing thing I wished would’ve been explored in detail.
