Star Trek

Finally, a big movie remake/reboot is done right.

Little thing

I don’t understand why J.J. Abrams had Kirk take the Kobayashi Maru three times. It made no sense that the Academy would allow a cadet to take the test more than once and that Kirk “failed” on two occasions negates a key part of his character. (I’ll let it slide that it also negated a key part of past Star Trek lore, that Kirk was commended for original thinking.) Also, it’s not like Kirk needed to take it twice in order to learn how to re-program the scenario.

Finally, it would have been a lot more fun and certainly more dramatic had Kirk played it more realistically and made it seem like his instincts and intellect were responsible for beating the unwinnable test.

(On a side note, can someone re-edit the original Star Trek: The Motion Picture? It’s actually a good story, just too slow and too long.)

Two scenes from Star Trek II about Captain Kirk and the Kobayashi Maru.
