Splice

This is admittedly a weak entry of mine as I cannot pinpoint the flawz in this movie.

Structure/Plot and Premise

I think I became disconnected from the story the longer the scientists kept Dren in the lab without anyone seeing her. Ultimately, it was awkward to use the vehicle of this new creature to tell the story of the relationship between the scientists. By the end it actually was an interesting relationship, but it would have been more dramatic as the sub-plot to a more intriguing portrayal of the consequences to Dren’s creation.

Other

You know a movie has lost its audience, or taken a major step out of bounds, when people laugh at a serious scene. Here, half the audience in the theater I saw it in laughed when Adrien Brody and Dren kissed. And am I the only one who thought Dren was no more than 15 years old and, thus, disturbed by the nudity and sexuality of those latter scenes?

The end

Why did Dren turn murderous just because she transformed into a male?
