Sherlock Holmes

Part of my displeasure was not properly hearing or understanding a significant chunk of the dialogue.

Structure/Plot

By the middle or earlier, it was clear that Lord Blackwood was behind the new deaths and threats, it was clear that he was seeking domination and it was somewhat clear how the electrical contraption helped him. Yet Robert Downey, Jr. as Sherlock Holmes took the slow and indirect route to tracking him down. That really bugged me and I almost fell asleep when Holmes and Watson were on that little boat.

Ending

When the truth is finally revealed in a good mystery or thriller, the audience should feel like they could have solved it. They should be able to look back and understand the clues…watch the movie a second time and appreciate the hints. Here, it was impossible to do so and that was a major mistake. The paid-off guard in the prison, the fake hanging, the extract that made Blackwood seem dead and the other details in his resurrection were either from left field or based on fictional clues. This was just as painful as deus ex machina.
