Saving Private Ryan
Great movie, except…
- Structure/Plot, Character
When Tom Hanks and the troop finally found Ryan, it made no sense that Hanks accepted his refusal to go with them. They were on a mission, they had orders and they should’ve taken Ryan by force, if necessary. Obviously, the movie needed to keep Act 3 as is, so that could’ve remained with the troops learning of the Germans advancing just as Ryan is hauled away .
- Little thing
Matt Damon’s pearly-white teeth were a break in the movie’s realism. If it was done to visually separate him from the others, then it was a poor filmmaking choice and unnecessary.
Steven Spielberg special feature.
