Run Fatboy Run

Good movie, consistently funny and with a little heart.

The Hollywood ending where Simon Pegg got the girl he was chasing, Thandie Newton, didn’t work. (I know they didn’t show the two together, but she agreed to a date in the denouement and, based on everything else, you know they would have ended up back together.) This was a let-down because, regardless of what finishing the race meant to Simon, it was hard to believe it was enough to overcome running away from a pregnant Thandie at their wedding.

And for at least the first half, the story was heading in a good direction based on its tone and characters- Simon running for the sake of finishing something and Thandie finding a great guy, Hank Azaria, who could also be a great father. This should’ve extended to its natural conclusion- Thandie respects him (as Simon wished for), Hank proves to be a good guy, Simon and he make peace, and the new Simon attracts a new woman thanks to his race effort.

Was it so hard for the makers to use proper grammar? Run, Fatboy, Run for commas!
