Rise of The Planet of The Apes
One of the best movies of this summer.
Character
Freida Pinto’s character was useless to the story. A simple thing would have been for her to conflict with James Franco by trying to persuade him to release Ceaser into the wild.
Structure/Plot
- From when Franco brought baby Caesar home, eight years passed before Franco mentioned anything to his boss. Eight years of Caesar’s revolutionary intelligence and accomplishments. Eight years.
- Around 30 primates were seen in the “prison,” yet suddenly when they broke out near the end there were around 100.
What if?
The drug ALZ 112 was the one make-believe thing in the world as we know it. That’s the structure and rule of a What-if? movie. That’s why it did not make sense to show the space mission to Mars. Regardless of this fact from the original, the key element was that the astronauts would be in space during the apes’ rise. That they were going to Mars was secondary and this bit from the franchise’s mythology could have been changed for this new series of flicks. It should have been a typical mission to the Space Station and then we could have seen a newspaper headline or news flash about the shuttle somehow spinning out of control and losing contact with Earth.
