Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
A good-enough movie considering the source.
Structure / Plot
When the King died because of the burning robe, I felt the middle brother immediately accusing Dastan, and the guards then chasing him a split second later, was a weak moment. Though the brother had a grudge, it would have been more realistic and dramatic to have a few seconds between them. The brother could have asked, “What did you do?” and then a few seconds of Dastan reacting and the guards stepping forward- not yet trying to apprehend him- would have been suspenseful.
Character
It’s always good for a hero to have flaws and not be supremely confident. Here, Dastan seemed sure of every one of his leaps, blows, and moves, and let the audience know it with a constant smirk. This bothered me in the same way Angelina Jolie did in Tomb Raider. Yet look at one of the greatest movie heroes, Indiana Jones- he had a fear of snakes and did not know how to fly a plane in the Temple of Doom.
Casting
Considering Jake Gyllenhaal is not on the A-list, why did the producers not get an actor who looked somewhat Persian? Same goes for a bunch of other key characters in the movie.
Little thing
Why the hell did so many characters have a British/European accent?!
