Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

First half: great. Second half: not great.

Premise, Sequels

In Raiders Of The Lost Ark, it did not feel like a stretch when the Ark was opened at the end and it unleashed a firey power. Most people believe in the Ark, whether with the Divine angle or not, so the power was either understandable or a small suspension of disbelief. Then, for some reason, the series kept increasing the supernatural. The fantasy element in Temple of Doom (the weakest story of the bunch, though the best adventure and action), was a little harder to accept. The Last Crusade was comical in the way Indiana Jones walked in mid-air, and then Crystal Skull took the cake- aliens who visited earth hundreds of years ago and who then flew away in a spaceship once the skull was returned.

It was too much…too far removed from the earthly action and down-to-earth premise of an archeologist looking for treasures. Worst of all, the crystal skulls were long ago revealed to be a hoax! This was not the part of the series that needed its stakes and interest raised and freshened.

The story itself was a little confusing, I still can’t recap the entire legend and point of it all. And the action was repetitive at times, the way the Russians kept showing up, Indy and gang escaped, Russians re-captured them, etc. No surprises there.
