Definitely, Maybe
More like, Definitely. As in, definitely not good.
It actually had a good set-up and a lot of promise, the idea of the mystery romance, but a few things downed it.
- Character, Premise/Style
The first thing was a small factor- I didn’t understand how the daughter did not know anything about her mother. Ryan Reynolds the father changed her name, but what about everything else?
The main factor was the lack of better drama or lack of more humor. The tone was quite flat. At one point I realized how funny this could’ve been as a Woody Allen movie from the late 1970s. Instead of making fun of Ryan’s shortcomings or delving deeply into them, the stale tone amplified what a loser he was. Think about it- he had an education, career/job, good looks…and yet he didn’t have the wisdom and courage to commit to Amy Adams until he was forty years old, a father and divorced from the wrong woman.
