Crossing Over

A decent movie that could have been much better.

Structure/Plot

- There were too many characters/storylines and it didn’t help that some were primary and others secondary. It would’ve been better to cut a couple and focus more tightly on the others, get us more engaged with the others.

- The episode with the 15 year-old Muslim girl was ridiculous and deflated my trust in the story. To have the FBI get a warrant and break into her family’s home because of a questionable school project was implausible, to say the least.

Little things

- The Harrison Ford storyline had two weak points. A) The way he so easily figured out who killed his partner’s sister. B) The very end. There was no need to show him going back to Mexico to tell the family their daughter died, or no need to stretch it that long.

- Another silly moment was when the Jewish character met with the agent. This was an experienced agent who, at first, properly seemed to know things about Judaism and then, inexplicably, became an idiot and couldn’t tell that what the guy was singing was nonsense. Even what the guy said was nonsense, like he can make the blessing over wine. I’m pretty sure those things don’t pertain to a teacher in an elementary school and I’m pretty sure a typical teacher without a degree cannot even apply for a religious visa.
