Babel

It was okay…certainly not bad, but I don’t agree with the Oscar nomination.

My beef is that, while the different stories combined to tell a greater tale, a couple were pretty weak in their own right. Like the Brad Pitt one, his wife got shot and he had to try and save her in that remote area. It was interesting, there was tension with the rest of the tour group, there were obstacles to treating her…yet, I hardly cared about her and Brad.

Now, I’m not talking about caring for them in the real world (of course it’s sad for any innocent person to die), but empathizing within the movie. Aside from being parents, there was nothing special about them. Perhaps that was the point, empathizing for a couple that could be me and you, but again, that wasn’t enough for me.

And the tale with their children and the housekeeper taking them to Mexico took too long to get to the actual danger and turning point of this episode (returning to the States).

A lot of the movie felt like filler…
