Air Force One
Great movie.
What if?
I’m a stickler for these things so I have to say that Glenn Close as the Vice President was a mistake. If the real world did not have a female Vice, then the movie should not have either, unless the movie was a What if? exploring that issue. After the impossible or highly-improbable action of the President’s plane being hijacked, everything else should have followed the rules of the real world.
Why? Isn’t a movie fictional? Can’t a movie do whatever it wants? If a movie is a fantasy, then it can do whatever it wants. But a What if? story is grounded in reality. It takes the world as we know it and adds one- and only one- impossible or highly improbable event. In order for it to be relateable and believable, the movie must portray the world as we know it and then add the twist. That makes it feel like we’re actually seeing the impossible. (Similar issue with Deep Impact.)
